About this Walk

During this walk, we will discuss the impact of the 2013 flood on the Sunnyside community, starting at the site of the “Crisis Café”, which was the neighbourhood gathering place in the immediate aftermath of the 2013 flood.

We will see where additional flood protection is needed, and we will see infrastructure projects in various stages of completion. We will also see the recently replaced Sanitary Lift Station, the site of a new storm water pump station and another storm water pump station that is being upgraded, as well as a presentation from the City of Calgary Water Resources team.

We will then discuss the Upper Plateau Separation Project, which will bypass storm water from communities at the top of the hill directly to the river instead of into the Sunnyside storm water system.

And finally, we will discuss the need for heightened berms and an upstream dam.
